Sasol coal mines order CDC equipment for upgrade
Dust Buster News

March 1999

Sasol Coal's mines at Secunda have committed orders with CDC for approximately R2,6-million worth of dust suppression equipment for their continuous miners as part of their upgrade programme.

Sasol Coal has been in the forefront with its commitment to reducing dust counts and improving health and safety and has a long history of collaboration with CDC in the development of current dust suppression systems.

Recent tests undertaken by the CSIR on behalf of the industry in response to directives from the Department of Mineral & Energy Affairs (DME) to adhere to the regulation limit of 5 mg/cu m showed that CDC's integrated dust suppression system of wet fan scrubber box, spray fan system and air movers together with good mining and ventilation practice could comfortably meet the DME's requirements.

CDC is the only wet fan scrubber box manufacturer that supplies the full range of dust suppression equipment required to achieve low dust counts. These include spray blocks, nozzles, inlet and high pressure filters, air-movers and booster pumps (both positive displacement and centrifugal).

The vast majority of the continuous miners deployed by Sasol Coal's underground mines are fitted with CDC wet fan scrubber boxes and associated equipment.

Delivery of the orders - received at the end of October and early November - began in mid November and are due for completion early in the new year.

CDC's customer support engineers are on hand to assist with installation of the equipment and ensure that it operates at maximum efficiency.
