Extra large CDC scrubber box makes its debut at Sasol Coal
Dust Buster News

Nov/Dec. 1999

Responsive as always to customers’ requirements, CDC has developed an extra large scrubber box for Sasol Coal and Voest Alpine to meet the high dust suppression capability needed in high seam mining.

The new box – the CDC825, equipped with a 825mm diameter fan and powered by a 75 kW water-cooled motor – is the biggest on offer in the local market, having a capacity of 17 cu m/sec, a big upward leap from CDC’s next largest box, the CDC760, which is powered by a 45 kW motor and has a capacity of 14 cu m/sec.

CDC produced the first CDC825 in April this year in response to a joint request by Sasol Coal’s Middelbult Colliery at Secunda and Voest Alpine to match the high volume production of a ABM85 – a road-header with built-in roofbolter – used in high seam mining at Middelbult West shaft.

A second CDC825 unit was supplied in May to Sasol Coal’s Syferfontein Colliery, where it was fitted to a conventional continuous miner engaged in high seam mining, and Syferfontein ordered another in October.
